You Must Let Go Of The SHOULD’s If You Truly Want Success In Business And In Life

Straight off the cuff the word SHOULD seems innocent enough. It’s just a word after all.

BUT

All words have meaning.

AND

Some do more harm than good.

The words you use on every day will ultimately dictate the actions you do (or don’t take) in both business and life.

REMEMBER BACK WHEN YOU WERE A KID…

When someone wanted to bully you or simply to upset your apple-cart in an effort to make themselves feel better, bigger, tougher, stronger, more in control…

And. You’d then recite this little ditty – either out loud or in your head – “Sticks and stones may break my bones… but names will never hurt me!”.

WELL. THOSE NAMES DID HURT.

And.

Sometimes they hurt a FUCKING lot.

More than you’d care to admit (then or now).
Even when you continued to pretend they didn’t.

You MUST understand that SHOULD has the same damaging effect on our psyche.

The problem is that saying SHOULD brings to mind it a certain level of guilt and powerlessness. Even if it’s not immediately recognisable.

I SHOULD eat a healthier diet.
I SHOULD put myself out there more.
I SHOULD get off Facebook and do some real work.

SHOULD is like your mother telling you to do your homework before you go to your friends house to play.

When we’re told or tell ourselves we SHOULD do something, it actually has the reverse effect.

SHOULD denies a key compenent of our human needs… CHOICE.
SHOULD takes away any options we may have.
SHOULD removes our freedom to do what it is that we REALLY want to do.

SHOULD IS A TRAP

Taking SHOULD out of your vocabulary does wonders for your mind and spirit.

It’s liberating.
It’s empowering.
It’s uplifting.

Eliminating SHOULD from your day-to-day language sets you free from limiting self-talk and limiting beliefs.

Ditching the SHOULD’s from your life compels you to contemplate the choices you REALLY have available to you.

Think about your BIGGEST should… The one you say most often to yourself…. And reframe that by replacing the nagative SHOULD with more positive and powerful words.

You can start right now. It’s easier than you think to make it a habit.

Practice reframing SHOULD with other, more positive and more empowering words.

Instead of saying:

I SHOULD take more action…
I SHOULD do less busy work…
I SHOULD be more focused on my goals…

Replace should with words like:

I CHOOSE to take more purposful action…
I WILL do less busy work…
I WANT to be more focused on my goals…
I MUST…

(you get the drift I’m sure)…

And. Watch and feel the transformation as it unfolds within you.

How does eliminating should from your vocab leave you feeling?
How different has your thinking become?
How much more do you believe in yourself AND in what is truly possible?

Remember…

The words YOU use DICTATE the ACTIONS you will take.
