How many times throughout your life have you heard that? From your parents. From your siblings. From your friends. From your boss. From your lover.
Whenever you object to what they want you to do.
Whenever you want to do things your own way.
Whenever you say you want to blaze your own trail.
Whenever you decide that you don’t want to follow the rules.
Whenever you want to do something that challenges their thinking.
Whenever you go against the grain and they are unable to control you.
THEY THROW THEIR HANDS IN THE AIR AND BARK OUT FALSE SURRENDER
But the thing is…
Whenever that phrase is thrown at you it is a bit of a backhanded permission slip because in fact they DO NOT want you to do whatever you want.
They actually want you to do the complete opposite.
They actually want you to do exactly what they want you to do.
They actually want you to do precisely what society dictates that you should do.
AND THEY NEVER, EVER, TRULY EXPECT THAT YOU WILL DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO
Because when people say that…
When they surrender in that way…
It’s a form of mental manipulation.
It’s them laying an unuttered guilt trip on you.
It’s their last ditch effort to control your thoughts, choices and behaviours.
And in truth that’s how life works for most of us.
That’s how we are ‘persuaded’ into doing what others believe we SHOULD do.
You see…
Most people are taught to do what they are told to do.
We’re conditioned that we must do what will make other people happy.
And.
We are trained TO NOT DO those things that we truly want to do, that we enjoy, that make us happy and leave us feeling fulfilled and satisfied. Alive.
When was the last time you heard it?
Yesterday.
Last week.
Last month.
Last year.
Who said it?
Was it your lover…?
Was it your friend…?
Was it your mother…?
How did you respond?
Chances are that you gave in.
That you didn’t follow your heart.
But that you succumbed and that you did exactly what they wanted.
You sacrificed that thing that you really, truly wanted to do so you could make them happy.
How did that leave you feeling?
Bitter
Resentful
Annoyed at them
At yourself
Stuck
Small
What if the next time someone said that to you.
The next time they said for you to “Do whatever the fuck you want”…
That you backed yourself.
That you stood your ground.
That you didn’t allow them to manipulate you.
What if…
You fucking did it?!
But more than that.
WHAT IF EVERY SINGLE MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE
You did exactly whatever the fuck YOU wanted to do.
You did it exactly the way that YOU wanted to do it.
You did that thing that makes YOU happy.
You did that thing that YOU truly enjoy doing.
You did precisely what it is that leave YOU feeling fulfilled, satisfied.
You did that thing that set YOUR soul on fire and leave you feeling truly alive.
What’s the worst thing that would happen?
Sure.
There’d be a few people out there who would piss themselves off because they know that they have completely lost all control over you.
Sure.
There’d be a few people out there who would talk badly about you because you had the balls to stay true to yourself when they simply haven’t got the internal fortitude to do the same.
Sure.
There’ll be some discussions and even consequences that you’ll need to have and deal with because you had the guts to deny them the power they once held over you and instead you stood strong, stepping fully into your own power by doing whatever it is that you really wanted to do.
Sure.
There’ll be a few people who no longer want to be in your circle because you have shone a light on their weaknesses while standing boldly in your own truth and doing what is right and honourable for yourself.
But.
Does that even matter?
FUCK NO!!
What matters is that you honour yourself.
What matters is that you honour your love.
What matters is that you honour your happiness.
What matters is that you honour your truth.
What matters is that you honour your passion.
What matters is that you honour your desires.
What matters is that you honour your power.
What matters is that you honour your purpose.
What matters is that you honour your life.
People come and go throughout the course of your life…
Friends
Family
Lovers
But.
You are your one and only constant.
Be true to yourself ALWAYS!

ALWAYS
Back yourself.
Stand in your power.
Feel how you want to feel.
Be who you want to be.
Say what you want to say.
Have what you want to have.
Do things your way.
Make your own rules.
